Pork Pie

In A Clash of Kings, Samwell Tarly says- "If I could fly, I'd be back at Castle Black eating a pork pie".

Before a modern cook attempted to recreate this recipe, they would have to decide whether to cook it based on a medieval or modern pork pie recipe. Medieval pork pies tend to be sweet with currants and ginger in them. Modern pork pies are far more dense, and are filled with more pork and fewer other ingredients. Given that Game of Thrones was written based on late-medieval history, it is probably more likely that Sam's pork pie was of the medieval type.

Three Finger Hobb's Breakfast

In A Dance With Dragons, Hobb makes a breakfast of boiled eggs, black sausage, and apples stewed with prunes.

“Very good, m’lord, only Hobb’s made boiled eggs, black sausage, and apples stewed with prunes this morning.  The apples stewed with prunes are excellent, except for the prunes.  I never eat prunes myself.  Well, there was one time when Hobb chopped them up with chestnuts and carrots and hid them in a hen.  Never trust a cook, my lord.  They’ll prune you when you least expect it.” -A Dance with Dragons

In A Game of Thrones, Catelyn Stark remembers the inn where Masha Heddle used to chew sourleaf and give cakes to the children that were "soaked with honey, rich, and heavy on the tongue". GRRM potentially took inspiration for this dish from Elizabethan honeycakes, which were light, fluffy, and more like a bun than a cake. Modern honeycakes are denser and include lots of ginger.

Sansa's Lemon CakesEdit

Sansa's favourite food is lemon cakes. Elizabethan recipes for lemon cakes tend to be sweeter, whereas modern ones have more of a lemony kick. Some people add poppyseeds, but as these are not directly mentioned in the book it is up to the baker whether they are included! Some recipes suggest sweet Elizabethan cakes become divine with a little bit of lemon curd on top. Either way I'm sure Sansa would be thrilled!

Sansa's SaladEdit

In A Game of Thrones, at a feast in King's Landing, Sansa is served a salad of "sweetgrass, spinach, and plums, sprinkled with crushed nuts". Sounds light and delicious! Excellent as a break between heavy medieval soups and meats.

Cersei's Chestnut SoupEdit

In A Clash of Kings, Cersei serves a rich and creamy chestnut soup, crusty hot bread, and greens, decorated with apples and pine nuts.
